Sherman, MISherman, Michigan CSKA MoscowCSKA Moscow (Central Sports Army Club Moscow, Russian: ЦСКА Москва) is a Russian sports club, often referred to as "Red Army" for its past affiliation with the Soviet Army. It is especially well-known for its hockey, football, and basketball sections.
Ice hockey
The hockey team won the Soviet Championship in 1948-1950, 1955, 1956, 1958-1961, 1963-1966, 1968, 1970-1973, 1975, 1977-1989. On January 11, 1976, the team played the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, who at the time were the defending Stanley Cup Champions in a famous game in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Spectrum which was won by the Flyers 4-1. That game was notible because after an extremely hard body check delivered by Dave "The Hammer" Schultz, the team's enforcer against a player, he was left prone on the ice for a minute, and coach Viktor Tikhonov, who was also the head coach of the USSR national team, pulled his team off the ice in protest that no penalty was called. They were told by league president Clarence Campbell to return to the ice and finish the game, which was being broadcast to an international audience, or that the Soviet Hockey Federation would not get paid the fee that they were entitled to.
Football team

The football team won the Soviet Championship in 1946, 1947, 1948, 1950, 1951, 1970, and 1991, and the Russian Championship in 2003 and 2005. USSR Cup winner in 1945, 1948, 1951, 1955 and 1991. Russian Cup winner in 2002 and 2005. Russian "Parlament SuperCup" winner in 2004. It won the UEFA Cup title on May 18, 2005 for the first time, becoming the first Russian football club to win a European cup.
Basketball team
The basketball team won the European Cup, the predecessor to today's Euroleague, in 1961, 1963, 1969, and 1971; won the Soviet championship 25 times; and won the Russian title every year from 1992 through 2000, plus 2003 through 2005. It also made the Final Four of the Euroleague in 1996, 2004 and 2005. The 2004-05 team became the first in the history of the Euroleague to go through the regular-season phase undefeated, and before the final four it had only lost to one team: Barcelona. Though CSKA eventually lost in the semifinals on their home court to Spanish club TAU Cerámica and to Panathinaikos on the 3rd-place game. That sent them to the 2nd grade teams in the Euroleague draw, although they finished the league with the best record. This year they also lost a game in the finals series of the Russian league, but they eventually got the crown.
